September 20, 2007

Meeting was called to order at 6:35pm by Stacey Rowe, JLH President.

         I.      Presentation of Program Funding – Stacey Rowe

·        Sunny Glen Children’s Home & Girl Scouts – Each organization was presented with a check.  They both thanked the membership and explained how these funds would be used for their organization.

II.      Guest Speaker – Mindy Bersalona with the Harlingen Country Club

·        Mindy Bersalona is the Events Coordinator at the Harlingen Country Club.  She spoke about the club and more specifically the activities for younger adults and families.  She also mentioned that HCC would sell drink tickets to anyone who did not have an HCC membership but would like to purchase a beverage during the JLH meetings.  In addition, she announced that there was a star under someone’s chair.  Sunshine Moore had the star and won a Sunday Brunch for 2 or dinner in the Palm Room with Stacey Rowe.

III.      Roll Call and Approval of May Minutes – Courtney Nash

·        Roll was taken.  The minutes were distributed.  There were no questions so they were approved as presented.

IV.      Financial Report – Melanie Haraway

·        Melanie presented the financial report.

      V.      Ice Breaker – Ginger Armstrong

·        Ginger Armstrong, Education Training, asked all members to introduce themselves.  She called everyone to the front, and the ladies introduced themselves with their placement groups.  Everyone told a little bit about themselves and explained the purpose of their placement.

VI.      Introduction of Provisionals – Kathleen McLelland

·        Kathleen McLelland introduced 14 new provisionals.  Each lady introduced herself and told us where they were from and what they do.

VII.      President’s Report on August Board Meeting – Stacey Rowe

·        The board met in September.  Nothing specific to discuss.

VIII.      Anniversary/Charity Event Update – Shea Bryson & Shannon Sparks

·        Shea Bryson addressed the membership.  She explained that we would be combing the anniversary event with the charity event this year.  She and Shannon Sparks’ committees will coordinate this event and are considering a date in early spring so we have time to secure underwriters, etc.  At this point, specifics are to be determined, but they are leaning towards a poker tournament.  More specific details will be announced at the October meeting.  If anyone has any connections with potentials underwriters, donors, etc, please see Shea or Shannon.

·        In addition, the charity event committee will continue to host the fishing tournament in the spring.  We think it has the potential to be a very successful charity event in the future and want to continue to develop it.

     IX.      Other Business

·        Secretary–elect – Heather Adair, Secretary, decided to go sustaining this year.  Courtney Nash, Secretary-elect, will assume the Secretary position, and the Nominating Committee will present a new Secretary-elect at the October meeting.

·        Member at Large – Cristina Gil is relocating, and the Nominating Committee will present a new member at large at the October meeting.

·        Incentives – Stacey announced an incentive plan to encourage attendance at general membership, board and provisional meetings.  If a member attends all general membership meetings, their name will be placed in a drawing for a grand prize at the end of the year.  Board members and provisionals have an opportunity to win a 2nd ticket if they attend all of their board or provisional meetings.

·        Chamber Mixer – If anyone has pictures from the 2006 Chamber Mixer, please forward those to Lisa Guerrero.

·        Arrangements – All members and provisionals need to give Melanie Haraway $10 for the food, tea and water provided during general membership meetings.  In the past, placement groups have been asked to provide food and drinks on a particular month.  Since our meetings are now at the Harlingen Country Club, it is more convenient for all if the club provides this.

Meeting was adjourned at 7:15pm.

Respectfully Submitted,

Courtney Nash, Secretary
