Junior League of Harlingen
General Meeting Minutes 1/25/07
Meeting was opened at 6:34 by President Lisa Guerrero, followed by roll
call and approval of minutes as posted in the Rio Review and on the website for
meeting 11/16/06.
In Attendance were:
Actives- Samantha Antonelli, Ginger Armstrong, Shea Bryson, Linda Burke, Luz Cintron, Bernadette Daniels, Mia De la Garza, Teri Funk,
Lisa Guerrero, Kelly Handley, Melanie Haraway,
Heather Helmer, Lisa Hutchens, Natalie Leal, Darcy
McCabe, Kathleen McLelland, Caroline Pitts, Jennifer Schifo, Sandi St. Pierre, Bonnie Villareal,
Susan Wieboldt, Chris White, Francis Wong, Kimberley
Young, Julie Ezell, Lesley Freeberg, Kari Milam,
Ilene Nyquist, Yvette Olivarez, Isela
Salinas.
Three guest
speakers followed:
- Wendy Brons
gave an update of the condition of Melody Swinnea,
and informed the membership of a raffle ticket sale to raise money to help
defray Melody’s medical expenses.
She also informed us of a foundation being formed for individuals
in need of long-term care. They
will be holding an event on April 28.
- Kathy Preddy
of RioFest spoke with us about the upcoming 25th
anniversary of the community festival that the Junior League founded. Several events connected with this were
discussed. 1) Tiles in the Park Art Project- form to order available. 2)
Girls Night Out
Thursday
April 5. 3) Founders Day Luncheon to honor the Junior League Founding RioFest Committee Wednesday April 18. 4) Art Preview Party
Thursday April 19. We as a League will
not have a required volunteer shift for RioFest this
year. All League members are encouraged
to attend with their families to show our support for RioFest
- Dona Liston
provided invitations for an upcoming Mardi Gras Party to support the Boy
Scout Sea Base Camp..
Board
Updates:
- Fire Union_ Details are still
being worked regarding insurance on before the Fire Union becomes
tenants.
- Stacey Rowe is attending the
P>E> training in Las Vegas
- Strategic Plan Review- We are
on target to meet our goals as set in the 2005-2007 Stategic
Plan
- Treasurer Update- The budget for
2006-7 and 2007-8 are currently under review. All chairman
are asked to submit budget requests for next year to the Treasurers.
Chamber
Mixer:
- Lisa Hutchens
passed a review of the plan for the event.
Invitations were mailed to members of the Harlingen Area Chamber of
Commerce, the Harlingen Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, and the San Benito
Chamber of Commerce. Extra
invitations are available for League members to distribute. There will be a raffle. Tickets are $10.00 each, and the prizes
donated are excellent!! We will
also have several door prize drawings throughout the course of the
evening.
Committee
Updates:
- Nominating presented ballots to fill the
open positions on the committee.
- Placement distributed questionnaires for
next years committee assignments.
- Training &
Education sign
up sheets available for the February Cluster meetings to be held
2/15. There will be one AM choice, and
two PM choices
- Project
Committee announced
that we have adopted The Sunny Glen Children’s home as our Signature
project choice.
- Done in a Day The Ronald McDonald House
Shower will be Feb. 10 from 4-6 PM.
Collection sites will be set up at the Harlingen and San Benito Wal-Marts that day.
Members are asked to help with a shift.
- Charity Event- Sponsorship packets are ready
to go out. Please contact the
committee if you can distribute a packet,
- Sustainers- A Spring Pot Luck at the Home
of Vicki Leggett is being planned.
Other
Business: The League has an opportunity to
once again participate in selling tickets for the Tennis Future’s
Tournament. Melanie Haraway
volunteered to spearhead ticket sales.
