Meeting Minutes
October 19, 2006
° Office Space Proposal:
The board is currently working on an agreement with the Fireman’s
° Attendance: In the absence of Placement Chair, Courtney Nash, Lisa passed a sheet listing make-up activites for members who have missed meeting. Please contact Courtney if you have any questions and to report any activities you do.
° Volunteer Time: Each member is asked to pick one ways and means area in which they are willing to help the League this year, be it for cookbook committee by doing a shift at the birding festival, or through efforts for our spring fishing tournament. Lisa is also looking for volunteers who could like to help with the Feast of Sharing. Please contact her by email if you have any questions or plan to volunteer.
· Committee Reports:
° Membership Development: Parker Spees announced that we currently have 12 in the provisional class. She introduced those that were present at the meeting: Kari Milam, Teresa Heatherman, Katie Nittler, Erica Kindel, Ilene Nyquist, Jessica Barragan, KJ Tenreiro, Isela Salinas, Julie Ezell. Their next meeting will be Tuesday October 24th.
° Webmaster: Please contact Ginger Armstrong if you wish to post anything on the website. The calendar function to self-post events should be up and running soon.
° Arrangements: This was our first meeting in our new location at the Harlingen Country Club. For a fee of $10.00 per member for the year, we are provide the meeting space and refreshments. A list was passed to show who has paid, and any member present who had not paid was asked to do so.
° Rio Review: If you are not receiving your Rio Review, please check with Sandra Flinn to make sure she has the correct address for you. Darcy will be asked to do an email poll to see how many members would like to receive the Rio Review via email, or posted to the website.
° Courtesy: Please let the Committee know of any events happening in the lives of our members, illness, births, deaths, etc. so we can let them know we care. Birthday wishes were expressed to Heather McMinn whose birthday is tomorrow, and to Chris White and her husband for their upcoming 25th wedding anniversary.
° Done in a Day: Tina Buford is currently working on plans for the Ronald McDonald House Shower. Tentatively, it will be the weekend before Valentine’s Day in February. Several suggestions were offered for additional drop box locations. This will require whole League participation.
° Charity Event: Date is set for April 28. There will be early registration at the Chamber Mixer.
° Cookbook: We will be selling our cookbook at the Birding Festival November 8-12. A sign up sheet for shifts was passed. Please contact Lisa Hutchens if you have any changes. Books are available, wrapped for giving as gifts for the upcoming holidays. Flowers by Jessee is offering a special gift basket price to league members. Incentive to sell: The Active member who sells the most books for the year will have the opportunity to designate the proceeds to the organization of their choice. Currently in the lead is Chris White.
° Advisory Planning/By laws: Kathleen McLelland proposed some changes to our current standing rules and policies for ways and means events. Please review for next meeting.
° Sustainers: They will be having their Fall Potluck on November 4, and are working on the Holiday Coffee for December. They will be decorating a tree for the Christmas Tree Exhibit at the museum. The theme will be related to the beach and fishing to go along with the Starfish theme and as advertising for our tournament.
° Project Committee: Members were presented with a handout of the list of signature project ideas the committee has thus far. We were asked to pick two that we would be interested in participating in. There was space allowed for members to present any additional ideas.
· Chamber Mixer: We are collaborating with three chambers to hostess this event.
Showcased will be the Junior League and all of the organizations we fund and
do volunteer efforts for. All of the food will be recipes from our Rio Riches
cookbook to commemorate its 10 year anniversary of publication. We are
currently seeking sponsorship for this event.
· Other Business: Teri funk and Stacey Rowe announced some upcoming
community events that may be of interest to our members. They will email details.
