The meeting was called to order, at 6:30 p.m., by Chris White. Attendance was taken by Darcy McCabe. Minutes from the May meetings were accepted by League members with no changes made.
We would like to welcome two new members, Sandi St. Pierre and Parker Spees. They are both transfers into the Harlingen Junior League and we are very excited to have them with us!
Ginger Armstrong welcomed a speaker to the meeting. Caroline Hutchinson, spoke on woman’s issues in Harlingen such as Heart Disease, and testing.
CHARITY EVENT
Shea Bryson spoke about the upcoming Camo and Crystal event, September 25th.
She acknowledged the committee members, Heather McMinn, Brenda Swinnea, Mirabel
Bermudez, Julie Crockett Graham, Susan Kutac, and Erinn Hendrichs. Registration
for the hunting part of the event will be held at Boogie-Boos in Harlingen.
The committee is looking for a donation of approx. 250 birds delivered a week
prior to the event (contact Brenda if you have any questions). Donations are
due September 1st, with each member having to donate 2 items each.
*Attendance this year will be counted through one (1) ticket purchase or member’s
name on the registration card of a table.

CHILI FOR CHILDREN
Cori Thomas spoke on behalf of the committee, which includes, Susan Pockrus,
Lucy Ann Dunkin, Susan Nowlin, Valerie Drake and Elissa Vann.
The event will be held November 6th during the Jackson Street Market Days. Please
bring your best Chili recipe to the next meeting to see who’s recipe will
be entered into the Chili Cook Off.
Children’s Center
Teri Springfield spoke about the Children’s Center at Valley Baptist Hospital.
There will be an orientation Monday, October 4th at the hospital (which will
coincide with the October provisional meeting) in the Lobby Classroom-South
Tower, 5:30-7:30. This will certify each person to volunteer at the hospital.
October 14th will be the Ronald McDonald House Shower, 5:30pm – 7:00pm. More information to follow regarding items needed at the house.
Placement
Lisa Guerrero spoke about all placement advisors and their responsibilities.
Each league member is responsible for documenting all their volunteer hours,
and now can be passed along at either a General Membership meeting or email.
There are two (2) missed meetings allowed per year; the April meeting and the
Christmas Social will count for 2 meetings.
Membership Development
Debbie Dunkin is putting together the new Provisional class for 2004-05. The
first provisional meeting will be held, Monday, September 13 at the First Community
Bank in Harlingen on 77 Sunshine Strip, 6pm.
Yearbook
Stacey Scoggins will be finishing up the yearbook to be ready for the next General
Membership meeting (September 16th). The masterlist was made available to all
League members at the August meeting to make any changes, please contact Stacey
if you need to make any other changes.
GOLDEN GLOVE AWARD
Congratulations to Carly Thomas who received the Golden Glove Award for the
month of August. She has done an outstanding job with the newsletter! Thank
you for your hard work Carly! Keep up the awesome job!
