Committee Reports:
o
Advisory Planning/ByLaws – Updates to
the ByLaws are in process and will be presented to
the Board at an upcoming meeting.
o
Arrangements – Beginning with the October meeting, the General
Membership Meeting will be held at the Harlingen Country Club. For $10 per year per member, HCC will set up
the room and provide light snacks and beverages.
o
Community Liaison – Debbie Dunkin and Lisa Guerrero met with RioFest, providing an opportunity to clarify common
ground. In Debbie’s absence, Lisa
provided a synopsis of JLH’s historical involvement
in RioFest.
JLH seeks to remain in a positive role with RioFest
– it is the League’s legacy and will always be part of JLH. The League’s name will forthwith be listed as
“founder”, instead of the current “co-sponsor” headline on all RioFest media (letterhead, advertisements, brochures,
etc.). JLH is not needed as a volunteer
force this year but out support is needed to boost participation and
attendance.
o
Cookbook / Ways & Means – (1) This
year marks the 10th anniversary of Rio Riches with only 1000 copies
remaining. In the next eight months we
will strive to sell all remaining books and support our ultimate goal: helping
the community. Challenge: the person or team of persons that sells the
most cookbooks by fiscal year-end will choose which school or 503(c) charity
receives the proceeds. Check will be
presented at the May Annual Meeting/Luncheon.
(2) February 8, 2007 is the
Business After Hours Chamber Mixer. It will be a first-time joint effort with the
Harlingen Chamber, San Benito Chamber, Hispanic
Chamber of Commerce. This will be a
wonderful networking opportunity with visibility for the League, showcasing our
charities/partners and promoting Rio Riches and the fishing tournament. The Chamber will mail 1600 invites of our
design and the HCC chef will prepare selections from Rio Riches. Will be raffling a wall of wine, similar to
last year’s charity event and may need donations. A corporate underwriter is needed to help
cover the expenses of the event since the League is the host. Also, League ambassadors will be needed to
attend the event and promote League.
(3) Birding Festival – November 9-12.
The number one tourist event in
o
Done in a Day – Lisa Guerrero mentioned that the House Shower is
in the works and a date will be announced soon.
o

with questions or concerns and she will present them before the Board.
